Psychologist Meppel

My name is Pauline and I work as a psychologist from my own practice in De Wijk, between Meppel and Hoogeveen.

When we have our lives nicely in order and have pleasant relationships with the people around us, we experience that we are doing well and feel happy.

But sometimes things go differently. There are situations when we feel dissatisfied and unhappy and don't quite know what to do. Help from family and friends is not always at hand or not sufficient. Temporary support from a psychologist can then be helpful.

In my practice I guide adults with individual and relational questions. Becoming aware of what is really going on, of wishes and desires, but also of assumptions and expectations, plays an important role during counseling sessions. Without awareness no real change.

In my practice I help people to better understand themselves, others and situations. This often takes courage. It takes courage to really see and accept yourself and others as you are and as they are, with all the pleasant and less pleasant sides. I like to help you understand yourself better so you can make new choices. I believe that you have everything you need to positively shape your life and your relationships with others.

Below are some symptoms in which I can help you. If you have a problem, question or complaint that is not listed, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is quite possible that I can still do something for you!

- Anxiety and social fears

- Uncertainty, assertiveness problems, low self-esteem

- Burnout, overworked

- Communication problems

- Concentration problems

- Depressive feelings

- loneliness

- Fear of failure

- Behavioral problems

- High sensitivity

- Midlife crisis

- Feeling uncomfortable

- Unpleasant childhood memories and experiences

- Restlessness

- Parenting questions and problems

- Becoming a parent

- Perfectionism

- Personal development and awareness

- Problems with social contacts

- Psychosomatic complaints

- Relationship problems

- Stress and tension

- Give meaning to life

Living wholeheartedly, how do you do that?

Do you also want to live wholeheartedly? Stop feeling inferior and small compared to others? Do you also want to feel satisfied and fulfilled instead of insecure, irritated and frustrated? Do you want to experience less stress, do you want to get rid of the feeling that you constantly “have” to do something? Do you find it frustrating that you experience problems in relationships with (dear) others?

Then become courageous, like many people before you!

Courageous people believe that they are capable of positive development and so are other people. They believe that people are never “finished” but always “developing". This helps them deal mildly and encouragingly with 'mistakes' of themselves and others.

Courageous people know they can always make new choices. They learn from what they do without feeling inferior.

As you become more courageous, you become more interested in the world around you. You become more active, dare to contribute more, and become more creative in finding opportunities and solutions. Courageous people bring out the best in themselves and others.

By acting courageously, you develop a positive and realistic sense of self.

Living courageously and wholeheartedly makes us feel better. We develop resilience and experience that we can always do something that is helpful. This makes us calmer inside.

During counseling sessions, the following components are covered:Analysis of your help question, your qualities and skills, your wants and needs and of the way you tend to react to (stressful) situations. We examine what you do to feel good and avoid pain. We do this gently and without judgment.

I assume that all of our behavior has a positive intention. People who keep quiet and withdraw during an altercation often do so because they don't want to make the situation worse. People who shout often do so because they want to connect with the other person but do not feel heard.

Acceptance of the situation. Acceptance of feelings, thoughts, behaviors, our own part in both successful and difficult situations. Accepting that we are sculptors of how we have come to think (unconsciously) about ourselves, others and the world around us. Accept that we have come to believe that this image we have created is true, familiar and normal. And that, as a result, we no longer see that things might be different and that we ourselves can be different.

Acceptance does not mean resignation. It means courageously and gently acknowledging our way of thinking, feeling and doing without judgment. That sets us straight psychologically. We no longer condemn ourselves (and others) but take responsibility for our way of reacting and for the consequences of our behavior. We realize that we are not victims of our circ*mstances but take back control of our lives and experience freedom: 'I can also choose differently'.

I assume that all of our behavior has a positive intention. People who keep quiet and withdraw during an altercation often do so because they don't want to make the situation worse. People who shout often do so because they want to connect with the other person but do not feel heard.

Adapting your behavior based on insights gained. You decide whether you want to change and in which direction. Together we explore helpful alternatives so you can courageously deal with your problems.

If you wish, we will make use of relaxation exercises, visualizations, the healing power of your breathing and useful tools to (come into) your power.

We do not always have influence on what happens to us, but we do have influence on the way we deal with it.

Take action by courageously practicing new behaviors. 'We make the road by walking, not only by talking.' Insights gained fade when they are not translated into behavior. After all, you can't cross the sea just by staring across the water. You practice by starting where you left off, by taking small achievable steps and consciously observing and appreciating your efforts and progress.

Warm regards,

Pauline
