Infiniti continues to bring its models to market step by step. The latest novelty is the G35 sedan. At the end of the year, the Japanese promise to start deliveries of the G37 coupe, and at the moment the most “incendiary” is the four-door “thirty-fifth” with a 315-hpV6, “automatic” and all-wheel drive.
The car moves the speedometer needle from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds. Such figures cause slight dizziness, even when you are next to the car. In general, it sounds tempting.
Fast, daring, powerful, provoking, inciting to sharp and aggressive driving, the G-sedan impressed with the behavior, rather characteristic of a coupe. And the brightest trace in the soul remained from the motor.
Unlike the Infiniti M35, the G-class engine of the same size received new pistons, an intake manifold, as well as a system for adjusting the height and opening time of the exhaust valves. The compression ratio increased (up to 10.6), the operating speed limit (up to 7,500 rpm), and the power was raised by as much as 35 hp. With. The hardest part of dealing with the G35 is getting it to act smoothly, evenly and obediently. Is it just necessary?
Thousands of different cars leave the conveyors every day, which kill in people the desire to enjoy the rapid movement and the means of this very movement. And in this, he just touched the gas pedal - and a powerful pickup delicately, but persistently pushes forward, to new turns.
At the same time, the person behind the wheel gets a much more juicy portion of sensations from acceleration and overload than passengers. Usually it's the other way around, but I like Infiniti's approach! Of course, until I had to exchange with a colleague and move to the right.
The sedan owes its confident acceleration not only to the engine, but also to the operation of the five-speed “automatic”. The automatic transmission shifts gears very quickly, downshifts intelligently in kickdown mode and – best of all – doesn’t upshift in DS sport mode. At the same time, it is possible to unscrew the engine to the limit of 7,500 rpm in an automatic gear change order.
Manual mode does not make global adjustments to the nature of the ride, but it gives a feeling of complete control over the situation. Moreover, you can switch speeds not only by pushing the selector back and forth, but also by magnesium “petals” under the steering wheel.
The G35 is based on the same FM platform that powers the M sedan and Infiniti FX crossover. Its plus is the ability to place most of the engine in the wheelbase, shifting the center of gravity closer to the middle of the car.
In combination with all-wheel drive and a delicate system of exchange rate stability (which carefully hides the fact of its existence), the sedan unquestioningly obeys the steering wheel and delights from the very first minutes of the trip.
The steering wheel, by the way, is not for wimps: when parking, you need to make an effort to make the Infiniti turn its “muzzle”, but at speed it is easier and more pleasant to turn the wheels. The chassis instantly responds to every degree of steering deflection, easily screwing the sedan into the most difficult turns.
In general, for the day spent in the co*ckpit of the G35, the only thing that I did not like was the brakes. Rather, it was not the efficiency that drew attention to itself, but the peculiarity of their work: the car stops in a timely manner, but the softness and lack of information of the left pedal take some getting used to.
Each sedan has, from time to time, to leave the usual asphalt trajectory and move down to a winding forest path, promising a repeated meeting of the bottom with stones and stumps. But the G35's suspension was long enough to put off that sort of contact.
